ZIMFETP Residents Shine at the UZ Annual Medical Research Day

The 2019 edition of the University of Zimbabwe Annual Medical Research Day was held on the 19th of October at Rainbow Towers. This year’s theme was “Innovative Research for Health Care”. The Director of Institute of Continuing Health Education (ICHE)- Mr C A Samkange welcomed all members present and highlighted that the Annual Medical Research Day (AMRD) is an evolution from the Faculty Research Day concept where the University of Zimbabwe expected each Faculty to dedicate one day to the presentation of the research output of each year. He also emphasized that true value of the research efforts is when the research is driven by community needs and results are shared with policy makers and with practitioners.” A total of 12 MPH residents made their presentations as indicated below. Two of the residents won awards, first – Best provincial paper, “Evaluation of the At Risk Surveillance System at Marondera Provincial Hospital, Mashonaland East Province, 2018” by Emmanuel Govha. The second being best HIV /AIDS paper, “Evaluation of the HIV case based surveillance system (CBS) piloted in Mutare district, Manicaland Province, Zimbabwe, 2018” by Alex Ingwani.
